About the course
The Higher Certificate in Creative Music Technology is designed specifically for entrepreneurial-minded self-starter music producers who wishes to produce quality music on computer.
This program is perfect for you if you’re an individual who doesn’t want to be tied to conventional studios but rather want the freedom of working from creative spaces, anywhere in the world. It specialises in Digital Music Production and is based on the current techniques used in a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) and music studio setup.
This one-year higher certificate will provide you with the attitude, skills and knowledge you need to become an independent music producer or artist. Topics that are covered focus on creative aspects such as MIDI sequencing and programming, music theory, arranging techniques, as well as mixing and mastering.
A broad range of musical genres, production techniques and industry-standard software packages, such as FL Studio and Cubase, are presented in a practical way. Therefore, upon graduating from this program, you will be able to produce music in a variety of styles.

To apply at EMENDY you need to first click on the Apply button above and complete the application form.
Once your application has been received, we will contact you and request a copy of your matric certificate or current report or your preliminary matric results if you have not yet passed grade 12, as well as a copy of your ID.
To apply for the Diploma in Music Technology you need a diploma pass on your matric certificate.
To apply for the Higher Certificate in Creative Music Technology OR Higher Certificate in Game Design & Development you need at least a Higher Certificate pass for your matric.
Our college registrar will then be in contact to get the remainder of the documentation which includes a copy of your payees ID and proof of income. We will send you the different contracts to complete and invoices for the registration fee of R4500 and course fee. Once we have received your registration fee your seat is secured at EMENDY for the next intake.
If you apply for a Short Course, there is no application fee, only a registration fee of R2000. These courses include:

To apply for the Short Courses, a matric certificate is not required.
All course registrations close 2 weeks before the course starting date. Late registrations will be open until the course starting date at an additional fee.
The following short courses are run on Saturdays from 09:00 to 13:00
- Digital music production series
- Audio Mixing and Mastering
These courses are designed for those who cannot study full time or have not obtained a matric pass.
There are different requirements for the different courses.
For the full-time courses the requirements are as follows:
- For the Diploma Course you need to have a diploma pass on your matric certificate.
- For the Higher Certificate Courses you need a higher certificate pass on your matric certificate.
For all short courses and workshops no matric certificate is required.
EMENDY doesn’t offer any accommodation but being situated in Hatfield, Pretoria and having so many universities, colleges and educational institutions in the area there are many accommodation options available. We can provide you with a list of places should you require it.
The class lengths vary, the longest being 3 hours. Students are divided into groups and a schedule drafted for the semester. Depending on your group you attend class between 8am and 5pm Monday to Friday.
Short courses run from 9am to 1pm Saturdays.
Matric or graduating from high school GRADE 12 is equivalent to SAQA NQF 4.
Our Higher Certificates are NQF 5 and the Diploma course is NQF 6.
EMENDY offers short courses for students without a matric certificate who wants to improve their skills.
Short courses offered by EMENDY:

TEXTBOOKS
The prescribed course textbooks are not included in the course fee. All other course notes and material are included.
SOFTWARE
The course is presented but (not limited) on the latest version of "Steinberg - Cubase" Digital Audio Workstation Software and FL Studio. In order to work remotely as well, it is recommended that students obtain their own licenses of the primary software platforms.
HARDWARE
Everything you need to successfully complete the course is provided for on Campus during your sessions. All enrolled students can book and use the College's fully equipped studios and practice room to complete their practical projects during the course. If you want to gain more experience in music technology, excel at the software used in the course, and be able to complete assessment tasks remotely, it is strongly recommended that you have access to your own DAW setup.
